Child Passenger Safety

The four steps of child passenger safety:

  1. Children until at least one year old AND at least 20 pounds should be in a rear-facing car seat.
  2. Children over one year of age and between 20 and 40 pounds can be in a forward-facing car seat.
  3. Children between 4 and 8 years old and under 4’9″ should be in a belt positioning booster seat.
  4. Older children, usually over 80 pounds and 8 years old, can fit correctly in lap/shoulder belts.
